Need a Safety Net?

DoubleSunrise is for health education and health promotion, but at times you may need more help. If you are concerned that you or a friend is in trouble, it is important to reach out for help.

If you are feeling suicidal or unsafe now or need immediate help:
Dial 911 or the operator and just ask for help or go to your nearest hospital Emergency Room. Don't hesitate. Even when you are in doubt...it's important to reach out for help.

There are many hotlines available by phone. Here is a list of a few:

For urgent care:

  • Call 911 or the operator
  • Go to the nearest hospital emergency room
  • Call the local police

For information or referrals about less urgent situations:

24 hour hotline to talk to someone if you are upset. For troubled teens and their families.

National Mental Health Association

This number will lead you to referrals to local resources for mental health and illness help. Spanish options available.

Smoking Cessation Hotline
To find help and counseling in your state call 1-800-425-3422 for a list of national stop smoking resources.

National STD and AIDS Hotline
1-800-227-8922
A 24 hour hotline by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), provides information regarding sexually transmitted diseases that is anonymous and confidential. Referrals to local clinics as well.

Alcohol, Drug: Substance Abuse
Al-Anon (and Ala-Teen) Family Group Headquarters

This daytime hotline provides locations and times for (free) meetings worldwide for support to families of those addicted to substances. Information regarding help for alcoholics and their families is also available. Spanish and French options.

National Domestic Violence Hotline

This 24 hour hotline provides counseling and local referrals for safe housing. Spanish options.
Hearing Impaired 1-800-787-3224

Planned Parenthood
1-800-230-7526
A 24 hour hotline that automatically connects you with the Planned Parenthood Clinic nearest you. Planned Parenthood offers reproductive, STD, contraceptive and pregnancy counseling.
